Ruth Sweet is a registered nurse (RN) and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She has undergraduate degrees in Rural Sociology and Nursing and a masters degree in Sociology. She lives in Verona with her husband Jim and their three cats. Three of her grandchildren live near by and are a very important part of her life. In her spare time, she gardens, knits, and bicycles. She has worked as a registered nurse and lactation consultant at Meriter Hospital, St. Marys Hospital, Jackson Clinic and Dean Clinic. She has an extensive net-work of contacts within the Dane County health care community. She is dedicated to increasing the number of breastfed babies to their first birthday.
Ruth has helped organize the Mothers’ Milk Association of Wisconsin. This group helps collect and deliver donor breastmilk to a milk bank where it can be processed. Donor milk can be obtained by prescription for babies whose mothers can not provide their own milk.
Adria Cannon is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She joined LAS in 2002. She wants to help mothers feel confident about their mothering through happy breastfeeding. She enjoys home-based problem solving consults, though she prefers to prevent problems through breastfeeding education. Adria also sees mothers at the Breastfeeding Clinic at Happy Bambino.
Adria breastfed each of her four children. She has worked as a La Leche League leader since 1996. La Leche League International has been helping breastfeeding moms help one another since 1956. A list of groups and contacts is available at the Madison area LLL blog. Through LLLI, Adria has helped breastfeeding mothers in person, by phone, and on-line. She also writes abstracts for LLLI’s journal of breastfeeding research, Breastfeeding Abstracts.
Adria has an undergraduate degree in zoology and has done graduate work in physiological ecology and statistics. She lives in Madison with her husband and children. In her spare time, she works as a fiber artist, spinning and knitting clothing, bags, toys and wall hangings. She participates in both the Madison Knitters Guild and spinners group
